For much of 16 years, the Humboldt Broncos Special Olympics Floor Hockey Team has shown, time and time again, the immense heart and passion they carry for sports, for teamwork, and for community. Their dedication to the sport and to each other has now culminated and been recognized with a national award they all truly deserve.
On December 3, 2020, via TSN’s Facebook Page, the Broncos Floor Hockey Team was awarded Special Olympic Canada’s Team of the Year.
“On behalf of our Humboldt Broncos Special Olympics Floor Hockey Team, we’re honored, we’re happy, we’re proud and excited for the accomplishment that the players have earned. We want to thank Special Olympics Saskatchewan and Special Olympics Canada for the acknowledgment,” said Coach Brian Reifferscheid.
Although the team was held without much competition in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they’ve accumulated many accolades over the past couple of years. The team took home a bronze medal at the 2019 Special Olympics Ontario Invitational Youth Games in Toronto, as well as another bronze at the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Thunder Bay.
“Since the pandemic, we have shut down our floor hockey program and we’re waiting patiently to start up again. When the time permits and we’re allowed to play again, we’re gonna have one hell of a party to celebrate.”
Considering all the accomplishments, including the latest Team of the Year Award, it’s clear to see that teamwork and hard work has paved the way to success for the Humboldt Broncos Floor Hockey Team. However, friendship and the love of the game will surely be the driving factor towards all the future success for years to come.
Congratulations to the Humboldt Broncos Special Olympic Floor Hockey Team.
