Broncos Acquire Veteran Goaltender, Dazza Mitchell From Weyburn Red Wings.

The Humboldt Broncos are proud to announce the acquisition of 2004-born goaltender, Dazza Mitchell from the Weyburn Red Wings in exchange for goaltender, Ty Matonovich and forward, Josh Sale.

Mitchell, a veteran of the SJHL for four seasons, has only ever played for the Red Wings throughout his career, amounting 104 regular season games. Throughout that span, since he was a 17-year-old starting in the 2021-22 season, Mitchell has backstopped a 44-43-4 record to go along with a 3.21 GAA, and .909 SV%.

His best season came last year, posting a .916 SV% through 37 games helping the Weyburn Red Wings to a 6th place finish. The Regina native was then a crucial component in nearly upsetting the 3rd place Humboldt Broncos in their seven-game opening round playoff series.

“I’ve seen what Dazza can do when he’s at his best, and I know the Broncos’ fans and players experienced that last year in the playoffs too. He’s as good as any goalie in any league. We’re very happy to add a goalie like that at this time of the year. We’d also like to sincerely thank Josh and Ty on all the work they did this year with the team and community,” said Head Coach and GM, Brayden Klimosko.

In addition to Mitchell, the Broncos received a 2nd round draft pick (2009-brith year) in the 2025 SJHL Draft.

The return package features 19-year-olds, Josh Sale and Ty Matonovich, both of whom were playing their first full season with the Broncos this year. Sale heads to Weyburn with 12 points (6g, 6) in 28 games. Meanwhile, Matonovich suited posted a 1-6-1 record though nine appearances in net.

The Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt would like to welcome Dazza and his family to the organization and community as well as thank Josh and Ty for their contributions.
