It’s crazy to call it, ‘a must-win game’, but it’s no doubt a big win for the Humboldt Broncos.
Working through a stretch of three games in under 48 hours and dropping the first 3-2 in overtime to division rival Kindersley Klippers, the Broncos rebounded and responded, in a resounding performance, defeating the Klippers 4-1 on Saturday night.
In a game where the Broncos’ coaching staff was looking for more consistency, less hesitancy, and to work together to reestablish their identity, the Broncos were true to all three of those facets through 60 minutes.
From the opening whistle, the appeared the hungrier team, while without question, establishing themselves as the more physical team.
Jacob Strizzi continued his hot start, finding the back of the night twice for his team-leading third and fourth goals of the season. Connor Miller picked up his second of the year, and Jeter Korte his first into the empty net to culminate the Broncos scoring.
Kindersley got their lone tally from Camden Cunningham, his second in as many games.
Goaltending was on point, although the Broncos did a fantastic job to allow Edouard Gauthier to see the puck, and limiting high danger scoring chances. Gauthier went on to stop 30 of 31 shots faced for his 3rd victory of the year.
The powerplay was 1/2, while the penalty kill game up the lone goal on four times shorthanded.
The quick turnaround is a sight not often seen in the SJHL, as the Broncos will have no time to soak the victory in; it’s back on the ice at 3:00pm for a road game in Yorkton against the undefeated Terriers.
