The Humboldt Broncos stormed through the Duncan McNeil Arena on Sunday with a convincing 7-1 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds on Sunday to complete a weekend sweep and improving their season starting record to 2-0.
The Broncos defeating the Hounds has been the status quo over the past handful of years with a combined 23-3-0 record since the 2020-21 season.
Numerous first career highlights were crossed off the list in the victory. Offseason trade acquisition Tre Fouquette scored his first career goal as a Bronco and finished with three points on the night (2g-1a). Kye Benoche also notched a pair of goals including his first in a green and gold jersey. Oakley McIlwain, Teigan Semchyshen, and Jacob Strizzi rounded out the scoring with their first goals of the season.
Gabriel Filion and Boris Kofman piled up more points in their hot start to the season, each finishing with three assists. Kofman leads the Broncos with six points in two games, while Filion is right behind him with five.
Edouard Gauthier received his second straight start in net. The 20-year-old netminder posted an impressive .967 SV%, stopping all but one of the 30 shots he faced and picked up his second win.
The Broncos’ powerplay claimed the top rank in the SJHL after the opening weekend, going 3/5 on the night, and are now clicking at a 38.5% success rate overall.
A more difficult test awaits the Broncos in third regular season game. The Yorkton Terriers who swept their opening weekend series with the Weyburn Red Wings while scoring 11 goals in the process will visit the EPA on Friday, September 27th.
