The right track continues for the Humboldt Broncos who defeated the Nipawin Hawks 6-1 to secure 7 of 8 points in their current four-game point streak.
An all around controlling effort for 60 minutes combined with strong special teams allowed the Broncos to dictate the flow of the game while routinely rolling all four lines who all contributed in the win.
The Broncos killed three penalties in the first period and got a powerplay goal from Jeter Korte (8) who returned to the lineup after missing three games. Nipawin scored their lone goal from Jack Schierau with just over a minute left in the first.
In the final 40 minutes, the Broncos took over the game in all facets
Maric Mamic ended with a multi-goal effort for the second straight game to increase his total to 15 on the season.
Oakley McIlwain finished with a goal and two assists, McIlwain is now up to 9 goals and 31 points, both good for second among all SJHL defensemen this season.
Jacob Strizzi scored his steam leading 23rd. Brayden Skogstad increased his point streak to four games with his 5th of the season and Boris Kofman picked up three assists on the night.
The Broncos’ powerplay succeeded on two of three attempts while the PK shutdown all 6 Hawks’ man advantages.
Dazza Mitchell was solid in the pipes stopping 24 of 25 for his second win since being acquired by the Broncos, improving his overall record to 7-8-1-1. This was Mitchell’s 50th career SJHL victory.
The Broncos will look to extend their point streak when they host the Notre Dame Hounds on Thursday, following which they will have eight days off.
