PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Winner: Jaden Schwartz, Notre Dame Hounds
1992 F Jaden Schwartz (Wilcox SK) will, in all likelihood, win the SJHL Rookie Of The Year Award, but he’s securing an SJHL Player Of The Week selection this time around. Schwartz fired five goals and one assist in three games played, all Notre Dame victories. Schwartz, who is ranked sixth in the league in scoring, capped the week with two goals and one assist Saturday night in a win over Weyburn. He scored overtime winners on Saturday and also on Thursday in a 1-0 decision over Estevan.
Runners-up: Matthew Kirzinger & Scott Schroeder, Humboldt; Rylan Schwartz, Notre Dame; Brett Leedahl, Kindersley.
DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Winner: Steven Turner, Kindersley Klippers
1989 D Steven Turner (Eston SK) continues to refine his game and develop into an elite SJHL blueliner. This past week, Turner had three points in two games played and he remains an integral member of the Klippers’ staunch blueline. He helped the Klippers break out of a slump by contributing a goal and an assist on Saturday night in a victory over Nipawin. For the season, he has 6-goals and 18-assists in 46-games.
Runners-up: Michael Young, Flin Flon; Brady Wacker, Humboldt; Taylor Thiessen, Nipawin; Dustin Stevenson, La Ronge.
GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Winner: Andrew Bodnarchuk, Humboldt Broncos
1990 G Andrew Bodnarchuk (Saskatoon SK) was stingy again this week, allowing only two pucks to get by him on 55-shots as he won both of his starts and maintained his league low goals against average of 2.19. Bodnarchuk blanked Flin Flon 5-0 with a 29-save shutout on Friday night. One night later, he got plenty of offensive support in a 9-2 victory up in La Ronge. Bodnarchuk, who has five shutouts, ranks second in the league in wins despite being seventh in minutes played.
Runners-up: Kraymer Barnstable, Notre Dame; Jordan Washburn, Melfort; Shayne Barrie, Estevan.
